Advertising & Affiliate

Affiliate Policy.

Aulvem runs a small amount of advertising and affiliate links in selected posts to cover the cost of operating the site and to keep the writing improving over time. This page documents the policy and the day-to-day rules.

Types of advertising

Affiliate programs such as the Amazon Associates program may be used.
If a purchase happens via a link, the site may receive a referral fee.
No extra cost is added to the buyer's purchase price.

PR labeling

Any post containing affiliate links is clearly labelled at the top of the post: "This post contains advertising / affiliate links."
Individual affiliate links and product cards carry rel="sponsored".

How products are selected

Scope is limited to things related to development, side projects, and the production environment.
As a rule, only tools and services I've actually used are featured.
I don't feature products based solely on spec sheets, without having used them.
What was middling, or who it doesn't suit, is included alongside what was good.

What I won't feature

Glowing reviews of products I haven't actually used
Over-hyped or pressure-tactic recommendations
Products of uncertain provenance
